Marguerite Willis began her legal career working on the massive antitrust cases known collectively as “The Uranium Cartel Litigation.” She litigated private antitrust cases in Illinois, New Mexico and North Carolina and worked as well on the related federal grand jury investigation in the District of Columbia. These cases all alleged horizontal price-fixing under Section 1 of the Sherman Act.
Today, corporations large and small count on Marguerite to handle the most complex matters with confidence. Her motto, “If it’s easy, you don’t need me,” rings true for the cases Marguerite takes on. With a laser-focus on tough, multi-party matters, she is trusted to bring a different kind of litigation to the table. She leads her team to be meticulously prepared, knowing that her clients are counting on her to be the difference-maker.
This preparation and diligence have been the core of her legal practice since the beginning when she became the first female law clerk ever hired by a Federal Circuit Court Judge, the first female associate ever hired at a Charlotte firm and the first woman partner at a major antitrust firm.
In the courtroom, Marguerite has established a reputation for delivering highly effective and highly successful litigation strategies. She has prosecuted major antitrust matters, as well as cases involving unfair trade practices, false advertising and vicarious corporate liability. Marguerite’s reputation precedes her, with a broad depth of experience in matters governing competition, pricing, distribution agreements, marketing programs, competitor collaboration, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property.

Our Antitrust and Unfair Competition Group has extensive experience in private antitrust litigation, government antitrust investigations, and business counseling. We have represented clients, as both defendants and plaintiffs, in federal and state courts throughout the United States in major cases involving claims under the Sherman Act, the Clayton Act, the Robinson-Patman Act, and state competition laws.
Many of these cases have involved, in addition, claims for false advertising under the Lanham Act and state business tort claims, such as unfair competition under state statutes and tortious interference with contract.
We have handled many complex civil antitrust cases, including treble damage actions, nationwide class actions, and consolidated multi-district litigation. Our attorneys are also experienced class action lawyers, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. For example, our lawyers recently defeated two class action suits filed in South Carolina state court prior to class certification. Nexsen Pruet was also appointed as lead class counsel in a significant federal antitrust class action.
A major area of focus for the Group is representing companies (both individually and in groups) that have been injured by violations of the antitrust laws in recovering damages arising from conspiracies to fix prices, rig bids, and/or allocate customers.
We have represented and currently represent a number of Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies in complex antitrust matters.
